LifeWorks: A Biblical Theology For What You Do Everyday
by Darrow Miller
Review written by Bruce Billington
For those of you who have done either our GoLife or GoBusiness schools (or both), you will be well familiar with the term “worldview” and the importance that it plays in our lives. It determines so much of how we think, act, and react to circumstances in life.
Darrow Miller’s book on this topic is a wonderful and most welcome work. You can be forgiven for thinking Dennis Peacocke wrote it, as the teaching Darrow Miller presents is so aligned to not only the concept of worldview that Dennis teaches, but also the way he does it.
The book is clearly written and set out which makes it very useful for students and readers who are new to this subject as well as those who may have been studying it for years.
LifeWork is well illustrated with many helpful diagrams and explanations and reveals both what we need to “take off” and what we need to “put on”, in order to align our worldview (because everyone has one), with the Scriptures. It challenges many wrong ways of thinking, within the Christian fraternity, providing the tools we need to deal with this and to embrace Biblical truth.
Here is an excellent quote from the book which provides an insight as to what Darrow Miller is attempting to correct.
“We have reduced Christianity to the personal and private sphere, living everyday lives little different from those of others in our society. We have created a comfortable church but one that is largely disengaged from the realities of everyday life in the marketplace, at home and abroad. Thus we have failed to open the truth and hope of the kingdom of God to the millions needing better answers than those offered by other religions or secularism.”
This is both as sad as it is true. However, there is hope. We can shift our thinking, and those around us, to be more consistent with the Biblical worldview and as a result, get into harmony with what God is wanting to achieve on Planet Earth, primarily through His people.
Throughout this year I have been working through LifeWork on a weekly basis with a group of folks that are hungry for God and His ways. It has provided an amazing platform for discussion and revelation. You cannot read this book without being challenged, transformed, and becoming better equipped to make a difference to the world around you. May God bless you as you do so.
